Posted February 05, 2019 09:02:54A Canadian shopping mall has opened after two nights of lockdown following an explosion at a store in Tysos Corner, south of Toronto.
The lockdown has been lifted at the Tysans Corner mall on Friday after the blast at the Pillsbury outlet.
The mall is located on a busy highway in the city of Toronto, close to the city’s main train station.
The blast came at around 3:00pm local time (7:00am EST) as a security guard at the store in the mall noticed a smoke coming from a machine.
The security guard called the police and arrived at the scene just after 4pm, Toronto Fire said in a tweet.
The store was evacuated after a smoke detector was found at the front entrance and no other injuries were reported.
There was no immediate word on what caused the explosion.
The Mall of Canada said in an emailed statement that it was “doing all it can to ensure the safety of our guests and employees” and would provide updates as soon as they are available.
The Pillshamys Mall, a mall in the same city, has also opened after a similar incident earlier in the day.
The mall is just south of the Canadian Tire Centre, which is also home to the mall’s main retail area.
Canadian Tire said in another tweet that it had no information to share at the time of publication.
The blasts came two weeks after two men were killed and six people were injured in an explosion in an Ontario shopping mall.
