Posted September 14, 2018 09:57:23A new themepark is expected to open next year in a Pennsylvania mall that has been a popular destination for locals for more than 50 years.
The Gateway Mall in Cherry Creek, Pennsylvania, will have its first new theme and ride attraction in more than a decade.
It will feature rides from Disney and Pixar, a roller coaster, a water slide, a pirate ship, a giant dinosaur and a roller-coaster called “The Great Escape.”
The Gateway will also have a giant mural that will be installed at the entrance to the mall, a new “Mall of Dreams” sign and a new entrance that will feature an “Mammoth” statue.
The project will be overseen by Disney Parks and Resorts and is expected for completion in 2019.
The new theme is the second Disney theme park in the Gateway Mall’s history.
The first was the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, which opened in 2000.
“The Gateway is a destination for many generations of people,” said Chris Friese, a spokesman for Gateway Mall.
“This new attraction will be a welcome change and an opportunity for people to see something they haven’t seen in years.
The Gateway Mall is a local landmark and we’re looking forward to bringing new people and entertainment to the area.””
The theme park will be an attraction with an interactive experience that is uniquely Gateway’s,” he said.
The ride and attraction is slated to open in 2019 and cost $85 million.
The original Pirates of The Caribbean ride opened in 1992 in Disney’s Hollywood Studios and is still a popular attraction in the U.S.
It is the latest in a string of theme parks to open since the death of Universal Orlando Resort president and CEO Michael Eisner in 2018.
