Woodbridge, Victoria (AFP) – A major fire gutted the popular Oakridge Mall on Thursday morning, destroying most of the complex and leaving about 80 people injured.
Firefighters were called to the mall, which is about 50 kilometres (31 miles) north of Melbourne, shortly before 7:00am local time (19:00 GMT) after reports of an electrical fire in a room in the building.
They found a large fire on the second floor, according to the city’s emergency services department, which added the blaze had damaged about 80 per cent of the mall.
“The fire has now been extinguished and it is currently under containment,” the city said on its Twitter account.
It was not immediately clear whether the fire was caused by a power failure, as the city had earlier said it was investigating the cause of the fire.
