An ice storm is closing the mall in Portland, Oregon, and the Oakland Mall in San Antonio, Texas, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The closures are the latest in a string of closures that have been imposed in the Southern Hemisphere as a result of the polar ice storm.
“I would like to apologize for the inconvenience to the community of Oakland and to the Oaklawn Mall.
We are currently working to resolve the issue,” Oakland’s owner, Oakland International Airport, said in a statement.
“We are aware that there may be a number of customers who have had problems accessing their stores and the mall is working with the airport to resolve any issues that may have occurred.”
The mall was closed Friday morning, but the mall reopened Saturday morning.
The mall closed Saturday for maintenance.
“Oakland is doing everything we can to minimize inconvenience to our customers and employees,” the airport said in an earlier statement.
The Southern Hemisphere ice storm hit Portland early Friday, the Times reported.
It was the first storm of the year that hit in the city.
“The snow that fell is so thick, it’s hard to see,” Portland Public Schools spokeswoman Lisa Smith told the paper.
“And it is very heavy.”
Snow plows were seen clearing streets in the Portland suburb.
The airport was closed at 7 a.m.
Saturday, and all flights were canceled at 7:30 a.
