The mall at Northgate, Va., in the heart of Virginia, is closed for at least a week because of flooding from heavy rains.
The mall, which is owned by Macy’s Inc., is located about 10 miles east of Washington.
The Mall Authority said Wednesday that the mall will reopen on Friday.
Mall officials say they are asking residents to be patient and that they will be ready to reopen by Friday morning.
They said they are working with the local sheriff’s office and other state agencies to determine how to reopen the mall.
Mall spokeswoman Katie Brown said Thursday that the Mall Authority is working with state agencies and local officials to determine whether to reopen.
Mall residents can return to their regular activities starting Thursday.
The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for portions of the U.S. from Maine to Virginia, as well as the Virgin Islands, and issued a severe thunderstorm watch for parts of the Northeast, with flooding expected in some areas.
The storm is expected to move northward on Friday morning and stay there until at least Friday night, the weather service said.
