Dallas — Mall owners and workers in Cottonwood, Texas, are taking their business offline after flooding that shut down the entire mall and left hundreds of workers homeless.
The Cottonwood Mall, home to the Cottonwood Mills department store chain, is currently closed because of the flooding, according to the city of Cottonwood.
The Cottonwood Corporation, which owns the mall, is working with other companies to provide assistance to affected workers, the city said.
According to the American Red Cross, at least 10,000 people are expected to be displaced in the immediate area due to the flooding.
Floods shut down highways and flooded residential neighborhoods and streets across the city last week.
Flames were reported near the Cottonwoods home, and the Texas Department of Public Safety issued a flood warning in the area.
Flood damage has caused $25 million in damage and $10 million in property damage, according the Red Cross.
The mall is located in a town of about 2,000 about 30 miles (50 kilometers) northwest of Dallas.
